The difficulty with that argument is that the execution of innocent persons actually performs a useful function.

Those who are executed are frequently black (unless they happen to be wealthy) or poor whites. I haven't done any research on this, but my general impression is that when someone of wealth or high social standing is tried in a case where capital punishment is possible they get off the hook, like O.J., Leopold and Loeb and others.

All of which works out well from society's viewpoint. The poor person who commits a capital crime is far more likely than a wealthy person to commit similar crimes if he escapes the chair or gas chamber or firing squad. The wealthy person who gets out from under that threat is unlikely to commit a capital crime again.

So, executing innocent persons may actually be an argument FOR capital punishment.

No being Christian isn't about living your life trying not to sin, if it were then we'd all sit and do nothing so we couldn't sin. The POINT was that we WOULD do something, that we would tell the world about Christ's sacrifice so that you all can know Him.

Going to Heaven isn't about WHAT you know, its about WHO you know.

St. Peter is NOT standing at some pearly gate, the gate keeper is Christ and no one else.

And if you like to think of Christians as stupid and ignorant fools that have to leave their brains at the door when they go to church then you are sorely mistaken. To know Christ and to understand Him is the most deeply involving mental task you will ever try to undertake, and without Christ's salvation and the holy spirit living inside you one can NOT understand.

I don't judge you, I simply point out the fact that you can't stop judging others because of your own fear that everything I am typing is true and you know it.

The overriding point here is that we were great when we didn't question Christianity or push the laws or customs to the very outermost limit. Then along came the ACLU, doing just that. The only way I can see to forestall such death-by-a-thousand-cuts is to make it unmistakably clear that Christianity and Judaism are the sources of our greatness, and we won't allow pissants to tear us down.

Think of it this way.. if believers are wrong about God they have lost nothing but if they are right they have gained everything. If I were a betting man those would look like pretty good odds.

On the other hand, if atheists are right and there is no God and nothing but a vacuum after death, then they have neither lost or gained anything, but if they are wrong they have lost everything and face a terrible eternity. Not good odds.

But if atheists or agnostics will only start to read the Bible and approach God in prayer amazing things would happen. It will be like gradually receiving your sight after being blind.

If anyone really wants to know if God exists I can only say put down Origin of the Species and pick up the Bible and start reading the Book of John to start with. You might also be greatly helped as I was by reading Mere Christianity by C.S.Lewis on the side.

Think for yourself, forget the status quo of atheistic thinking, and approach God directly. Be an independent thinker with an open mind and a real desire to know the truth and you will find it in the Bible. There is no hope or meaning for life anywhere else.

Apparently either Satan was listening when I posted here that my sister is the first atheist that I've met (although, to be fair, I haven't met these people at my school) or God means to use me to minister to atheists.

Either way it's terribly hard and I need the advice of other strong Christians.

I study education at a large community college. In the student commons area there are bulletin boards to be used by students for just about any purpose. There are ads for housing and textbooks as well as ads for area churches and church events. I, and some other Christians, put tracts up there as well as on various free spaces (the tops of fire extinguishers, the bathrooms, etc.)

The tracts are always gone in a short amount of time and I assumed that they were taken by genuinely interested parties. Now I think they are taken down by atheists. This is why--

I went to school today and stopped by the bulletin boards to tack up more tracts, as I always do. There were no Christian tracts up but there were atheist tracts. They said things like "God is fake" and {Mod snip}. I took them down, of course, and I'm FURIOUS. It's complete and utter blasphemy. Who would put these up?! Why?! If you don't believe in God why try to trash Him and keep others from His message? It makes me physically ill. I kept them for evidence but I can't stand to even look at them.

What can I do? Can I take these tracts to the Dean? Do I have any recourse? I'm trying hard to pray for discernment but I'm honestly so furious that I'm just spitting mad that someone would do such a thing. I need words of wisdom from wise Christians who are used to dealing with this kind of thing because I'm in over my head.
